If there’s one thing that everyone comments on about Great Pyrenees, it’s their beautiful, thick coat. A well-maintained pyr coat is soft and fluffy and you just want to snuggle right into it.
Their bright white color is striking and always turns heads. While a pyr coat is self-cleaning, you need to do a bit more if you really want the coat to shine.The self-cleaning coat of a Great Pyrenees is truly amazing. Unlike most coats, it does not hold dirt. This means that if a pyr gets a bit muddy, he really doesn’t need a bath. If you let the mud dry, the dirt will just flake off and the rest can be brushed out.
Easy peasy.
Due to their awesome coat, the Great Pyrenees only needs to be bathed every 3-4 months. Doing so more frequently can strip the natural oils and hinder its ability to stay clean. Since the fluffies only get baths a few times a year, we make sure each bath provides the best quality care for their coats. When Mauja was a puppy, I never used conditioner on her fur. Her puppy fur was naturally floofy and well-conditioned – and honestly, I didn’t even think about it. One day when out and about, we ended up coming home with some conditioner. I have literally no idea what prompted me to purchase it.
I won’t go back to my sans conditioner days.
While their coats are nice and soft normally, the conditioner adds a whole new glisten. Their coats shine and glow beautifully and their fur is softer than I imagined possible.
Over the past few years, we’ve been trying out some different shampoos and conditioners and so far, this is my favorite.
